It hasn’t settled in. The entire experience was so surreal. I anticipated having at least three heart attacks, but I feared I might miss Bey’s infamous stanky leg or Hov’s instructional bounce, get your damn hands up, throw your diamonds in the air, etc. So, I dealt calmly with heart palpitations and a flood of emotions and just rocked the hell out with two of my favorite artists–who just happen to make an unstoppable and adorable couple. I admit it. I have an extreme shoe addiction. And these are the latest shoe trends I’m adding to my closet for spring.

I use to be an avid-hater of mules because they were so old-fashioned, and needless to say, boxes and boxes of the shoes were in my mom’s closet growing up so I wasn’t rushing out to buy any footwear my mom liked. But thanks to some modern updates like sleeker heels, cooler silhouettes and chunky platforms–I’m back on board. I couldn’t think of a better trend to just slip your foot into this spring.  Read the rest of this entry »

From casual to formal, here are my favorite looks this past week:

Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio was spotted on February 24 shopping at Planet Blue in Beverly Hills. Normally I’m not a big fan of overalls, but the trend has emerged this year with more fitted styles that I approve of. Alessandra’s Black Orchid skinny overalls in Die Another Day are just the type of silhouette I’m looking to add to my own wardrobe this spring and summer. She paired the overalls with leopard Vans Van Doren and a white sleeveless eyelet shirt from her own line Ale by Alessandra. Read the rest of this entry »

WED_Runway-598x340How’s this for fashion and tech-savvy? For London fashion week, cameras were used in Topshop’s show to scan models as they stomped down the runway. Remember Diane von Furstenberg’s use of Google glasses during her runway show in September 2012? What about Burberry being the first fashion house to live stream its runway in 2011? And that trend of live-streaming has continued into recent fashion weeks around the world. A surge in social media networking as well as live streams broadcasting the entire runway show online has allowed fashionistas to become immersed in a world that’s not always accessible to small-town girls like myself. With everything going digital, the fashion industry–which at its core is all about what’s new or forward–is determined to not be left behind. Read the rest of this entry »

I have so many favorites this year from the red carpet of the Academy Awards. Let’s get started on what I loved. And let’s just assume if some gowns didn’t make this post, then they were either too safe or not my favorites. This year’s best-dressed lists should include at least one of these ladies in the top 10.

Topping my best-dressed list of the night is Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years A Slave actress wore a beautiful light blue silk Prada gown with pleats along with Prada platform sandals and a Prada raso clutch. She completed the look with Fred Leighton jewels. From her hair and makeup to her dance-a-long with Pharrell Williams during his “Happy” performance, Lupita was the clear winner of the night.

In lieu of tonight’s celebration of the best in film (and the red carpet), I thought I’d kick things off with Oscar-nominated actress Lupita Nyong’o. As I wrote before, I’ve been obsessing over the newcomer ever since she graced the red carpet for film premieres. Currently on a winner’s streak in both awards and fashion, Lupita is my latest star style crush. Not one to shy away from bright colors and prints as well as daring silhouettes and bold shades of makeup, Lupita is every bit as fearless on the style circuit as she is with her on-screen portrayal of Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.  Her fresh and nearly flawless ebony skin serve as the perfect backdrop for the latest designer duds. I love that she keeps her accessories to a minimum and allows the garment to shine on its own, albeit with a bold lip and eyeshadow here and there. From classic sheaths to sophisticated gowns, Lupita has been spot-on this past year. Here are a few of my favorite looks:

One word for my must-see TV this week: Prince.

prince-new-girl-600x450The Purple One is set to appear on Fox’s New Girl. The episode entitled “Party Time” will air directly after the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 2, which is fitting because Zooey Deschanel’s character Jess and her best friend CeCe receive an invitation to a party thrown by the legendary singer and musician at his mansion. That’s certainly one party I wish I was invited to because I’m a HUGE fan of Prince. Of course the episode will be full of laughs as usual because Winston, Schmidt, Coach and Nick try to crash the party.

And Prince isn’t just making a cameo. According to executive producer Brett Baer, Prince is going to be very instrumental in helping Jess and Nick sort through some of their issues. It’s also really refreshing to hear Prince is a big fan of the show as most of us are. He actually contacted the show himself to be a part of it. I’ll be tuning in after the big game, which I’m desperately hoping will result in a win by the Denver Broncos.

Will the cast of New Girl  be a part of your Super Bowl after party?

Here are the items I’m currently obsessing over and will be adding to my collection soon:

My favorite go-to accessories are chunky earrings and rings, but the ear cuff craze has me desperately wanting to try a pair for spring in silver or gold. Ear cuffs can be an edgy, stylish alternative to most earrings because they don’t require you to have pierced ears or to wear those horrid clip-ons. For formal outfits, you can wear sparkly or crystal designs or mix it up with metal styles for more casual looks. Claire’s and other popular fashion retailers like rue21 and Forever 21 have affordable and trendy options. Beyonce and Jay Z open 2014 Grammys

Just as I predicted in my must-see TV post, 17-time Grammy winner Beyonce opened last night’s show with hip hop mogul Jay Z, singing their hit “Drunk in Love” from Beyonce’s fifth self-entitled studio album. It was quite a steamy duet between the husband and wife power couple, as Beyonce lit up the stage with just a chair and “flashing lights.” Camera action caught Taylor Swift and Sir Paul McCartney jamming along with the crowd as they chanted the popular line from the song–“surfboard.” Read the rest of this entry »

My favorite looks of the week are from three ladies in the entertainment industry who each have their own distinct style, ranging from retro to bold prints to rocker chic.

DJ and singer-songwriter Solange Knowles was a bit ANTsy when she attended the Spotify pre-Grammy party on Thurday, January 23. I’m bugging out over this turtleneck crop top and skirt duo in black and white. In truth, I can’t tell if they’re cockroaches or ants sprinkled throughout, but I’ve never seen insects look this good!
